A Proposal of Backlit Image Enhancement by Using Histogram Specification

Abstract(in English) The intensity distribution of the backlit image is similar to a bimodal distribution. In this report, we propose a histogram specification-based backlit image enhancement method which focuses on the characteristics of the intensity distribution of the backlit image. In the proposed method, the intensity transformation is performed by using a target histogram which is designed to improve the intensity contrast. In this process, the hue and saturation components are preserved. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by comparing with various conventional image enhancement methods.
