| Abstract(in English) | The polarization-modulated signal can be demodulated by directly detecting the Stokes vector. In this study, we theoretically analyze the bit-error-rate characteristics of a Stokes-vector direct-detection receiver using an optical pre-amplifier. We derive analytical expressions for the bit-error rate of the one-, two-, and three-dimensional modulation formats in the Stokes space, where the binary modulation is employed per dimension. Furthermore, the receiver sensitivities for these modulation formats are compared with those for the coherent modulation-demodulation system, the optically differential direct-detection system, and the intensity-modulation/direct-detection system. |
