Design and Implementation of Improved User-PC Computing System

Abstract(in English) Recently, the computing ability of a personal computer (PC) has rapidly evolved with increases of the CPU clock rate, the number of cores, and the memory size. As a result, the collection of idling resources of PCs for users or user-PCs will provide a significantly efficient platform for complex computational projects with very small costs. To realize this concept, we have studied the user-PC computing (UPC) system as a computing platform for a small group following the master-worker model. However, the previous system has several drawbacks. In this paper, we present the design and implementation of the improved UPC system to solve the drawbacks. Here, we adopt high-level programming languages, the Web server, Docker, and Python cross platform library-psutil. For evaluations of the implemented system, we measure the CPU usage rate, the memory usage rate, and the CPU time by running five different jobs on three PCs.
