Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Facial expressions are important to communication. The visual cortex and amygdala are involved in the recognition of facial expression in the brain. In this study, we proposed a network that is inspired from the information processing between the brain regions by combining a convolutional neural network (CNN) and a self-organizing map (SOM). We show that the proposed network improves the discrimination performance on a facial expression classification task where face images are classified into 6 basic and neutral emotions.
