Abstract(in English) | Facial expressions are important to communication. The visual cortex and amygdala are involved in the recognition of facial expression in the brain. In this study, we proposed a network that is inspired from the information processing between the brain regions by combining a convolutional neural network (CNN) and a self-organizing map (SOM). We show that the proposed network improves the discrimination performance on a facial expression classification task where face images are classified into 6 basic and neutral emotions. |
