Abstract(in English) | The physiological activity of animal’s brain is modulated by diurnal rhythm that depends on light/dark cycle. The rhythm is generated in suprachiasmatic nucleus in the brain. The performance in the memory task which depends on the activity of hippocampus is also modulated by the rhythm. Theta and beta waves are related to the memory process. However, the relationship between the brain waves and the diurnal rhythm has not yet been clarified. Hence so far we have investigated the relationship using the carbachol-induced beta oscillations induced in rat hippocampal slices. We found that the frequency was significant lower at night of Zeitgeber Time (ZT) 16-19. In the present study we studied the diurnal rhythmicity of the parameters of beta oscillations, and the involvement of the activity of the inhibitory neurons. In results, 1) the locomotion activity had the peak around at ZT18. 2) Among the oscillatory parameters only the frequency had the significant diurnal rhythmicity. 3) The pair-pulse ratio of the spike activity tended to be higher at ZT16-19 than the other ZT’s. The ratio reflects the degree of the disinhibition. Together with the previous results the previous study, these results suggest that the brain wave in the hippocampus will be modulated by diurnal rhythm through the modulation of the inhibitory transmission. |
