Special-purpose computer for electroholography using Xilinx Alveo U250

Abstract(in English) Electroholography can reproduce all the depth cues required for human perception of depth, and is attracting attention as an ideal three-dimensional image presentation technology. On the other hand, the computer-generated hologram (CGH) used in electroholography has not yet been realized due to its high computational load. In this study, a special-purpose computer for electroholography was developed using the Xilinx Alveo U250. The special-purpose computer is capable of computing a CGH of 1,920×1,080 pixels at 28.9 ms (34.6fps) from a point cloud of 49,665 points. Its performance is 230 times faster than the CPU (Intel Core i9-9900K) and 7.43 times faster than the GPU (NVIDIA RTX 2080 Ti). We demonstrate the architecture and computational performance of the developed computer.
