Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Deer fences are widely used as an effective means of preventing serious feeding damage by deer and other wildlife. If deer fences are damaged by wildlife collisions, they lose their defensive capability, so regular inspections are essential for effective control. In order to reduce the burden on forest managers, we developed a prototype system that notifies managers of suspected damage by detecting the impact of fences being broken by wildlife. In this system, the acceleration of the vibration is measured by the vibration detection sensor installed on the fence, and the data is collected through the wireless sensor network. By classifying the causes of acceleration data into wind and animals by machine learning, the system extracts vibration information with a high risk of damage, and provides information on the location and time of the impact through a website for foresters. This paper describes an overview of this prototype vibration detection system and its performance evaluation based on test operations on a deer fence installed in a mountainous area.
