A Study on Combined Effect of Cluster Multilayering and MMSE Filtering on Inter-cluster Interference Mitigation in 5G Advanced Ultra-dense RAN

Abstract(in English) In ultra-dense RAN consisting of a large number of distributed antennas, the coverage and the capacity can be improved by forming a number of user clusters (also called virtual small cells) with each cluster consisting of neighbor users and by executing cluster-wise small-scale MIMO cooperative transmission / reception in parallel using the same frequency. But, a straightforward clustering produces a severe inter-cluster interference (ICI) and the capacity improvement is much smaller than expected. Recently, we proposed the joint user-cluster multilayering and scheduling for ultra-dense RAN. This approach is based on user clustering using the user location information, user-cluster layering based on the interference offset distance, user-antenna association on each layer, and cluster-wise MMSE-SVD cooperative transmission / reception. Recently, we showed by computer simulation that the simple layer-by-layer round-robin scheduling can effectively mitigate the ICI. In this paper, we will discuss about the ICI mitigation effect in detail from the viewpoint of cluster multilayering and MMSE filter interference power term. Specifically, we show the combined effects of cluster multilayering and MMSE filter interference power term on ICI mitigation, based on the relation between the link capacity (user and sum) and fairness obtained by computer simulation.
