Abstract(in English) | Paper-based exams for dementia screening such as Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) are not suitable for daily inspection. As previous studies have shown that performing multiple tasks simultaneously is effective in detecting dementia, we developed a system to analyze the gait of elderly people while performing dual tasks in a daily manner. Our system has been installed in 15 elderly facilities and more than 30,000 data are collected from more than 500 elderly people. To investigate the relationship between dual-task gait and the traditional cognitive score, we extracted 12 features related to dual-task gait and estimated the MMSE score using a machine learning method. Using data from three facilities, the sum of recall and specificity for the detection of persons with lower MMSE scores (less than 27 points) was more than 1.7. |
