Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The electromagnetic contactor was opened and closed in air or in hydrogen. The arc duration ta, arc energy Ea, arc extinction current, contact resistance Rc, etc. were measured from the waveform of the breaking arc discharge. The power supply voltage was AC100V, 50Hz. The closed contact current Io was set at 10, 30 A, and the gas pressure was set at 0.5, 1, 3 atm. The effects of the ambient gas of Air and hydrogen (H2) on the characteristics of the arc were compared. As a result, it was confirmed that the arc duration time ta in the air was not affected by Io. The arc extinction current was about 1 A in air but became 3 A or more in hydrogen. Therefore, it was confirmed that the arc duration time ta in air was not affected by Io. On the other hand, in hydrogen, it became shorter when the ambient pressure was 3 atm. The arc extinction current was about 1 A in air but became 3A or more in hydrogen. Furthermore, it was found that the contact resistance Rc was smaller in hydrogen and more stable.
