Accuracy Evaluation of Aisle Width Estimation using RGB-D Camera

Abstract(in English) Recently, population in Japan is aging rapidly and will keep growing in the future. To address this fact, the government will provide an easily accessible environment in many facilities based on the Law for Promoting Easily Accessible Public Transportation Infrastructure for the Aged and the Disabled (Transportation Barrier-Free Law) enacted by Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. In addition, the government is actively promoting to publish the information of roads and buildings, including existence of bumps, road slope and aisle width, as open data. To contribute this activity, we aim at collecting such kind of information automatically by using sensors mounted on e-Bikes and electric wheelchairs. In this paper, we introduce an aisle width estimating method by using RGB-D camera and evaluate its estimation accuracy by conducting experiments at eight aisles in Waseda University.
