The Variation of Fractal Dimension in Environmental Sound Wave during Medium to Long Term

Abstract(in English) Our study is developing new method to evaluate the self-similarity waveform using the Fractal dimensions. From the study conducted so far, we show that the self similarity waveform can be identified by our sense of hearing and it is affected by regionality of sound environment such as around the airport or beautiful nature. Also, it is important for our comfortable life to protect the sound environment. The relationship between good environmental sound and Fractal dimensions have not become clear. In the latest study, we find that the sound generated by propulsion system of Shinkansen railcar or aircraft has strong self similarity and causes decline in Fractal dimension when these sounds comes close to ourselves. We find that by analyzing the environmental sound in short period of 5 [s] and we believe that we need to consider a case with longer time. In this thesis paper, we report the result of continuously measuring the change of Fractal dimension using the environmental sound of Shinkansen railroad and airport of which both have 600 [s] period.
