Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | Perception of the direction of figure could be confused and inconsistent when a natural image was observed through a small window so that a whole object was not visible. With a focus on the connection between the perception and neural activity, we investigated the correlation between the perception consistency in figure-ground (FG) determination and the response modulation of V4 neurons with the preference to figure-ground (FG cells). We further examined the correlation with the response modulation of a kernel model that consisted of the receptive-field estimated from spike triggered averaging using neural responses. The result exhibited significant correlation between the perception and the neural responses, indicating that the responses of FG cells are consistent with the perception of FG. The result also showed the significant correlation with the model, suggesting a certain contribution of the linear receptive fields to the perception of FG. |
