Abstract(in English) | This research formulates a mathematical model for generating violin bowing-like movements with various movement durations, and discusses the model’s effectiveness and the strategy underlying the human arm’s control mechanism. Actually, two factors are incorporated into the criterion function of the previous three-joint arm model with a freezing-like mechanism in its hand joint: a constrained condition for evaluating linearity of the hand path and an additional term for evaluating movement duration. Consequently, the following results are obtained: (1) the measured hand-joint angle changes quite a bit during movements contrary to unconstrained reaching movements; (2) the proposed model can generate hand paths close to the straight line connecting the start and target points with various movement durations (or speeds); (3) the minimum torque-change strategy does not always enable reproductions of all measured trajectories, whereas the minimum energy strategy enables reproductions of all measured trajectories. The above results suggest that the proposed model can be a plausible model of the human violin bowing mechanism, and that the human arm’s control mechanism can be subject to energy minimizing strategy. |
