Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) can be considered one of the most effective transmission schemes for digital wireless communications, because OFDM is very robust against multipath channels and inter-symbol interference while dense and orthogonal allocation of the subcarriers can drastically improve the spectral efficiency. However, OFDM suffers from high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) due to the use of a large number of subcarriers. To cope with such high PAPR, this report proposes a constant-amplitude OFDM scheme that can achieve PAPR of 0 dB. First, the proposed scheme decomposes an OFDM signal into two constant-amplitude signals, which are transmitted at different timing. On the receiver side, the original OFDM signal is regenerated by combining two received signals that originate from these two constant-amplitude signals, which is equivalent to a received OFDM signal that passes through the wireless channel. As a conventional constant-amplitude OFDM scheme, the constant envelope OFDM (CE-OFDM) scheme transforms the OFDM signal into a phase modulated signal. Computer simulations make a comparison between the proposed and conventional schemes, and demonstrate that the proposed scheme is much superior to CE-OFDM in bit error rate (BER) performance while both the schemes have almost the same out-of-band spectral characteristics.
