Inductor-less Active Directional Coupler

Abstract(in English) In order to miniturize the directional coupler, one of the best option is to use inductors and capacitors instead of coupling quater length transmission line. Nethertheless when the target frequency of directioal coupler gets lower, required inductance and/or capacitance become too large where it makes impossible to integrate all the components into small die area. This report proposes design and evaluation results of Inductor-less active directional coupler composed of resistor and voltage-mode amplifier instead of quater wave-length transmission line or inductors and capacitors. An active directional coupler was fabricated using 3.3V bulk-CMOS process. Its operating frequency ranges from DC to 100MHz. The fabricated chip size is small as 120um x 80um, and measured directivity was more than 61 dB at the frequency range from DC to 1MHz.
