Preliminary Study of HPA Linearization System using Look-up Table of HPA Input-Output Characteristics

Abstract(in English) In order to reduce adjacent channel leakage power (ACLP) caused by small output back-off operation of HPA (High Power Amplifier) of the mobile terminal, the authors have been proposing HPA linearization system where the base station estimates the HPA input / output characteristics of the mobile terminal and feeds it back to the terminal to linearize HPA. In this HPA linearization system, a mobile terminal transmits reference signal and the base station detects the amplitude information of HPA from the received reference signals and estimates HPA input / output characteristics by using spline interpolation. However, it is necessary to transmit the reference signals many times to achieve high accuracy of input / output characteristics estimation in white noise and/or frequency selective fading on the propagation path. To solve this problem, this report proposes another type of HPA linearization system where HPA input / output characteristics of the mobile terminal is stored in a look-up table in advance and estimates the operating point of the HPA at the base station. In the proposed HPA linearization system, operating point of HPA, i.e. output back-off needs to be estimated by the base station and estimation error increases ACLP. This report evaluates ACLP due to operating point estimation error to clarify the required accuracy of operating point estimation error of HPA.
