Joint Multilayered User Clustering and Scheduling for Ultra-dense RAN in 5G Advanced Systems

Abstract(in English) Ultra-dense radio access network (RAN) consisting of a large number of distributed antennas can improve the coverage and the capacity of 5G advanced systems. We have been studying the joint multilayered user clustering and scheduling for ultra-dense RAN. Recently, the authors proposed the interference control which can reduce the inter-cluster interference (ICI) by layering of user-clusters, user-antenna association, scheduling, and cooperative transmission/reception. User clusters are formed using the user location information and cluster layering is introduced to separate user clusters on each layer more than the interference offset distance (which is determined according to the required transmission quality). In this paper, we propose a modified multilayering of user clusters and user-antenna association. The modified multilayering of clusters allows allocating the same user-clusters to multiple layers and thus, can mitigate the communication opportunity decrease due to layer-by-layer scheduling. The modified user-antenna association allocates the minimum number of antennas to each user and then, allocates the remaining antennas to users based on the minimum user-antenna distance criterion. We evaluate by computer simulation the user capacity, the sum capacity, and the fairness to show the effectiveness of the proposed joint multilayered user clustering and scheduling.
