Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | Research ethics education with the jigsaw method was conducted for 20 international students preparing to write a graduation thesis. Teaching materials are (1) a newspaper article written in Chinese on efforts and issues against scientific research misconduct in China, (2) a science article written in English pursuing research misconduct in Japan, and (3) an investigation report written in Japanese on research misconduct in Japan. Students discussed the reason why research misconduct is a serious problem, and, moreover, exchange opinions about ghostwriting. Students' pre/post self-assessment shows that statistically significant improvement in scores are observed in three out of four viewpoints. Students' opinions indicate that they recognize that research misconduct undermines public confidence in science and they accuse researchers committing research misconduct for selfish reasons. Students are beginning to realize the importance of responsible conduct of research. Research ethics education with the jigsaw method has a reliable effect. |
