Abstract(in English) | The fire department configuration, which determines the numberand the locations of fire stations as well as the formation offire trucks, is a key element to achieve efficient firefighting operations under limited resources. In this paper, wedevelop a tool, called FD-CAST, which visualizes estimatedarrival information of fire trucks for given fire departmentconfiguration. FD-CAST first computes the distance and timebetween every pair of a fire station and a town block, basedon the configuration and geographic information. Then, assuming that a fire occurs at a town block, FD-CAST derives adesignated set of fire trucks to be dispatched and theirestimated time of arrival. The result is visualized in atable and a choropleth map. A user can alsosimulate various situations by modifying the configurationinformation. We have implemented a prototype of FD-CAST, andconducted case studies with practical examples. Throughfeedback from fire officers, we confirm the effectiveness ofFD-CAST for analyzing the fire department configurationproblem. |
