Abstract(in English) | In search of an effective cut-through strategy at Layer 2 networking, this paper looks at the physical Ethernet port unplug-move-plug procedure as a feasible option. The closest rival to the proposed method is reconfiguring L2 VLANs on the fly, which would also (although at a lower degree) guarantee the cut-through mode. This paper focuses on measuring how the disruption in connectivity affects active bulk transfer TCP flows. A wide range of conditions were tested, specifically randomizing timing and duration of disruption. Only a small effect on the overall performance was detected, proving the proposed method a valid option in practice. |
