| Abstract(in English) | Recent enactment of the Act for Eliminating Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities and the Act for Improvement of Reading Environment for Visually Impaired Persons has prompted public libraries to provide various services for people with problems in access to libraries. The handicapped have difficulties in access to library materials unless they are able to visit the facilities or communicate using telephone or e-mail. A solution is outreach programs implemented by braille libraries in which they deliver documents or other services directly to such users. The authors examined outreach activities described in the websites of braille libraries. Nineteen libraries out of 98 (19.39%) provided some forms of outreach services, which included lectures in external facilities (by 9 institutions in total) and holding external events (by 7 institutions in total) among others. |
