Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In order to clarify the factors contributing to the motivation of the sighted for braille learning, a survey was conducted on students aiming for certification of librarian or license of special school teacher. Factor analysis of the 118 answers obtained revealed eight significant factors, of which six were examined in comparison with research results of motivation for second language acquisition. Several factors, such as interest in the object of learning and that in groups using it, were found to constitute motivation both in braille learning and in second language acquisition. Meanwhile, sighted braille learners seemed to have difficulties in imagining practical situations of braille use, in spite of the awareness that they themselves would use braille in future, presumably due to limited opportunities of witnessing real scenes of reading/writing in braille.
