Validation of buried pipe detecting method using ground penetrating radar

Abstract(in English) With respect to buried pipe assessment using the ground penetrating radar (GPR) profiles, an automated pipe detection method which is able to supersede interpretation by well-trained experts is required due to cost and time reduction. In this paper, we propose buried pipe detection method. The proposed method consists of four steps: filtering for noise reduction, synthetic aperture imaging, buried object detection by OS-CFAR (Ordered-Statistic Constant False-Alarm Rate), and classification with binary trees. For classification, we adopted amplitude, phase, and length of detected objects as attributes. We show the result of the proposed method applied to the open GPR profiles recorded on a geophysical test site.
