Abstract(in English) | Recently, satellite-based automatic identification system (AIS) has attracted much attentions because it can receive AIS packets across the open ocean. As such a satellite system, Japan Aerospace eXploration Agency (JAXA) has conducted an experiment named Space-based AIS Experiment (SPAISE) in Japan where satellites equipped with AIS receivers have been launched, and observed AIS signals suffering from the Doppler shift. The results clarify that the wide coverage of the satellites causes a collision of multiple AIS signal packets, which degrades their transmission performance severely. To cope with such collided packets, a separate detection scheme using successive interference cancellation (SIC) has been investigated and achieved good performance when received power difference among the collided packets is considerably large. However, the bit error rate (BER) degrades more severely as desired to undesired signal power ratio (DUR) becomes smaller. To solve this problem, we consider the separate detection as a multi-user detection (MUD) problem, and propose parallel interference cancellation (PIC) to be used for separating the collided packets, which results in excellent BER performance even when the DUR is relatively small. Computer simulations under Rician fading conditions show that PIC outperforms SIC when channel parameters are perfectly estimated. |
