Abstract(in English) A 125-um cladding space-division multiplexing (SDM) fiber is attractive for deployment of the SDM system since it is expected to have similarly high productivity and high mechanical reliability as the existing single mode fiber (SMF) with the standard cladding diameter. In such fibers, mode-division multiplexing (MDM) is useful to space-efficiently scale up the system capacities for future huge traffic demands. To date, 45 mode-multiplexed 90x90 multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) transmission has been demonstrated with standard 125-um cladding graded index fiber, achieving the highest spectral efficiency of 202 bit/s/Hz in single core fibers. However, toward the commercialization of the MDM system, it would be strongly required to reduce the complexity of the digital signal processing (DSP). In this paper, we demonstrate weakly-coupled 10-mode multiplexed transmission with two 2x2 MIMO and four 4x4 MIMO over 48 km 125-um cladding step index few-mode fiber (FMF). By using the rate-adaptive probabilistically-shaped (PS) polarization-division multiplexed (PDM) 16 quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) signals as a key technology, we achieve the highest capacity of 402.7 Tb/s in the single core fiber transmission experiments.
