Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In order to evaluate cognitive function by NIRS measurement, we analyzed the brain activity with short-term memory task which induce working memory activity. First, the brain activity was measured by fMRI with the experimental task, and it was confirmed that a brain response was obtained in the area where processing such as memory, spatial understanding, and verbalization of visual stimuli were performed. Then, NIRS measurement was performed on the same subject using the same task. After averaging, the difference between the brain response of the task (memory) and that of the control (non-memory) was analyzed. The increase in oxygenated hemoglobin concentration change and the decrease in deoxygenated hemoglobin concentration change were observed in the right side of the forehead. The changes, which reflect to the brain activity, were observed in the similar area to that of fMRI. Further, the changes seemed to correspond to the process of memorization, storage and recall. Thus, this experimental task is considered to be effective for comparing subjects and measuring changes over time of the same subject by NIRS measurement.
