Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | Facial make-up enhances perceived facial attractiveness, but sometimes has negative effects on facial attractiveness when it looks inconsistent with time, place, occasion (TPO). This study examined what facial features are related to different types of make-up desirable for different social situations. In the experiment, we used three types of facial stimuli: aesthetically attractive makeup (attractive-makeup), makeup for job-hunting (job-makeup), makeup for dating (dating-makeup). In experiments, participants evaluated attractiveness of these stimuli. Our results showed that the date-makeup was selected more often than no-makeup and attractive-makeup as the most attractive face or the most desirable face as a romantic partner. The date-makeup might be preferred the most because facial femininity was exaggerated (a redder lip and high facial contrast). |
