A WLAN Channel Assignment Method Based on DFS Occurrence Pattern Analysis in 5GHz Radar Band

Abstract(in English) In a wireless LAN (WLAN) system using the 5GHz band, a dynamic frequency selection (DFS) by radar interference causes a communication interruption and degradation of a channel utilization efficiency. We analyzed the DFS occurrence history of a WLAN system in operation and found that the pattern of DFS occurrence can be classified as stationary or sporadic. In this paper, we propose a method to estimate whether the DFS occurrence pattern is stationary or sporadic using DFS operation histories across multiple APs, and a channel assignment method in which channels are reused only in the case of sporadic pattern. Simulation results show that the proposed method can reduce the number of communication interruptions by up to 75% while maintaining channel utilization efficiency.
