Estimation method for the direction of cardiac source by lead field matrix

Abstract(in English) A 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) was invented more than 100 years ago, and they are still used as an essential tool to detect early heart disease. However, the number of electrodes in the 12-lead ECG is limited to nine. In addition, it is not easy to model the electric potential simply due to the inhomogeneity of the human body, which causes a notable estimation error on source localization. In this study, we propose a localization method for cardiac source with 12-lead ECG via sparse reconstruction. The lead field matrix was constructed by solving a forward problem for an inhomogeneous human model based on the scalar-potential finite-difference method. The cardiac source was estimated, as an inverse problem, by the orthogonal matching pursuit method. From the computational results, the average localization error of the electric dipole sources in the heart was 12.6 mm, and the average direction error was 9.9°, which is comparable to or somewhat better than those in previous studies.
