Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper describes observation results of the breaking sound of carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) materials. A mechanical load was applied to a 10 mm diameter CFRP pipe (plain weave) and the sound was observed using a broadband microphone with a 65 kHz treble cutoff frequency specification under the sampling frequency Fs = 192 kHz. For comparison, observation results of breaking sound of a polycarbonate resin pipe with a diameter of 10 mm and a glass epoxy board are also shown. When a load was applied to a CFRP pipe, an initial breaking sound caused by the load was observed, and then breaking sound was observed at entire pipe was broken. The initial breaking sound of the CFRP pipe contains of 30 to 70 kHz spectrum, and the non-audible frequency components are more prominent than those in the human audible frequency range. The shape of the frequency spectrum of the initial breaking sound is similar to the frequency spectrum of the sound observed when rubbing carbon fiber cloths (plain weave) before resin impregnation. The initial breaking sound of CFRP pipe is thought to suggest that the sound is generated by rubbing carbon fibers. To make these non-audible sounds audible, a frequency conversion method using a downsampler was proposed. The proposed method is implemented using MATLAB/Simulink, and it is confirmed that quasi-real-time processing is realized.
