Abstract(in English) | In recent years, it is required to expand a range of use of a power line communication (PLC), and it is also required to increase communication distance. However, transmission characteristics of power line placed in water or in soil have not been studied in the MHz range. In this report, the authors proposed an equivalent circuit model for estimating transmission characteristics using an electromagnetic field analysis including the surrounding environment of the power line. Using the analyzed results, the author also calculated the transmission characteristics of the power line acts as distributed constant circuit. For the electromagnetic simulation, the method of measuring the complex permittivity of only the dielectric part of the power line was also proposed. The validity of these estimation methods of transmission characteristic was confirmed by comparison with measured transmission characteristics. Then, the transmission characteristics were investigated when the power lines were placed in vacuum, freshwater, seawater, soil(dry), and soil (freshwater saturation). As a result, when the power line is placed in a medium having a dielectric constant larger than that of coating of the power cable, the transmission characteristics were deteriorated due to concentration of the electric field inside the coating of the power cable. It was shown that the deterioration of transmission characteristics could be suppressed by using a dielectric with a low dielectric loss tangent. |
