Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | Quantization maps a large set of input values onto a smaller set of output values, which is fundamental for digital processing. The uniform quantizer is often utilized but it is not so efficient. The Lloyd-Max quantizer minimizes the distortion of the quantization error; but it requires the probability density function of the input, which is often unavailable in practice. The $DeltaSigma$ modulator has been developed originally and widely used for A/D conversion, which has an accumulation followed by the uniform quantization and a difference between the input and the output of a uniform quantizer. The modern $DeltaSigma$ modulator utilizes designed filters in place of the simple accumulators. When the system to be connected to the $DeltaSigma$ modulator is known, it is reasonable to design the $DeltaSigma$ modulator based on the knowledge about the system. Design methods of the $DeltaSigma$ modulator will be explained and the related topics on the $DeltaSigma$ modulator in signal processing, digital communication and networked control will be discussed. |
