Abstract(in English) | Measuring complex amplitude of optical signals is one of essential techniques in optical coherent quadrature amplitude modulated (QAM) transmission systems. We have proposed the spectrally slicing and synthesizing scheme with low-speed coherent receivers. The optical spectrum of the measured signal is divided into multiple narrowband spectrally sliced components, so-called slices. In the digital domain, the fluctuations of frequency and phase on the slices are compensated for, and then the slices are synthesized. In this paper, we numerically and experimentally evaluate how many slices the signal spectrum can be divided into. In our simulation, we evaluate distortion of the recovered signal waveform due to timing jitters, spectral amplitude fluctuation, and the residual phase noise when the number of the slices is increased. The numerical results show that the waveform distortion does not depend on the spectrally slicing number. With our scheme, we measured complex fields of quadrature phase shift keying optical signals, and the dependence of the constellation symbol fluctuation on the slicing number was experimentally evaluated. We pointed out that the signal spectrum can be divided even into >100 slices without increasing the symbol fluctuation of the recovered constellation. Finally, we demonstrated the spectrally slicing and synthesizing measurement of 16QAM optical signals with the 300 MHz receiver bandwidth, and the constellation diagram can be recovered. |
