Hydrophilization and conductivity evaluation of graphite by microwave

Abstract(in English) Microwave Graphite Oxide (MWGO) was synthesized by using microwave irradiation to graphite in hydrogen peroxide solution. The oxygen functional groups were introduced into the graphite via chemical reaction with hydroxyl radicals generated by microwave irradiation. As a result, the MWGO showed high dispersibility in water. This chemical reaction occurs only at the graphite edge and leads to reduce environmental risks compared to other chemical methods using strong oxidizing agents. Moreover, the obtained samples show the higher conductivity than raw graphite in spite of non-reduction. The conductivity of the MWGO was increased with increasing microwave irradiation time, and the maximum value was reached to about 140 S/mm. This result is explained by improvement of high crystallinity and low defect density using microwave irradiation. Therefore, the MWGO is expected as a printable conductive carbon material.
