Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) It has been claimed that gestures promote human speech understanding, while it is yet unclear to what extent gestures contribute to human memory concerning speech content. Kelly et al. (1999) demonstrated that immediate recall of speech content was enhanced by gestures. Here we examined whether such memory enhancement would endure after 1 week. The result showed that, however, the gestures did not affect the speech content recall with 1 week delay. The human memory of gesture-related information might decay rapidly.
