Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Humans have been known to recognize a wave of light with a certain wavelength as different colors, depending on the surrounding environment and the psychological state of the observer. This effect indicates physical color systems defined based on the wavelengths of light such as the RGB color system are not sufficient for quantifying the color, and psychologically determined color systems are required. In previous studies, color systems determined by psychological experiments using color charts have been proposed as psychological color systems. This kind of color systems, however, is difficult to represent intuitive (or System 1 by Kahneman) color recognition. In this study, we consider alternative methods to quantify intuitive color recognition by using reaction time and event-related potential in the reverse Stroop task. We evaluated reaction times and event-related potentials in the reverse Stroop task using“intermediate colors”(not primary colors) as printing color. As a result, we showed that increasing the distance between the hue of the meaning of the presented color kanji word and that of the printed color, the reaction time and the N400 component of event-related potential increased. Our results suggest that reaction times and event-related potentials in the reverse Stroop task can be available as quantitative measures of intuitive color difference.
