[Fellow Memorial Lecture] Adaptive signal processing and image processing, linear or non-linear?

Abstract(in English) It is well known that an image is nonstationary, the processing according to its local property should be required. Therefore, adaptive processing is promising. However, the application of adaptive processing to an image has many problems. In this lecture, an overview of researches on the multidimensional and nonlinear adaptive signal processing by our group and its application to image processing are introduced. This talk begins with image processing using a linear filter and its problem and describes several algorithms of adaptive signal processing. Next, about the extension to the multidimensional case, the methods proposed by the authors are mainly introduced. Then I shift to the subject for nonlinear filter often used in image processing, and the application to nonlinear filters proposed by our group. Adaptive algorithms are also the core of neural networks that are currently active, so our work to neural networks is also introduced. Finally, the talk is summarized, and future works are described.
