Investigation of Malfunction Factors of Myoelectric Artificial Hand during ESD Testing and Immunity Performance Improvement by Wireless Control

Abstract(in English) In this study, in order to demonstrate the usefulness of our developed wireless myoelectric artificial hand, we performed electrostatic discharge (ESD) immunity tests based on IEC61000-4-2 to determine the malfunction rates of the myoelectric artificial hand during it was controlled through wire and wireless, respectively, and compared the test results. We also identified the mixing location of noise caused by the ESDs, and investigated the correlation between various parameters of ESD-generated electric field pulses and the malfunction rate of myoelectric artificial hand. As a result, it was found that the malfunction rate of myoelectric artificial hand was lower during wireless control than during wired control. This was because that the cable, which was identified experimentally to pick up noise, between the myoelectric signal detecting electrode and the controller of myoelectric artificial hand was replaced by wireless link where a modulation scheme resistant to ESD-type impulse noise was adopted. Therefore, we were able to show the usefulness of wireless myoelectric artificial hand.
