A study on iterative decoding using information of magnetic transitions in SMR

Abstract(in English) In our previous research, we focused on a log-likelihood ratio (LLR) computed as the decoding reliability by a posteriori probability (APP) decoder on the low-density parity-check (LDPC) coding and iterative decoding system by a signal processing for the shingled magnetic recording (SMR), and we clarified that applying the LLR modulator with a neural network realizes an effective iterative decoding. In this report, we propose a new LLR modulator with a neural network using information of magnetic transitions correlated with LLRs. Then, we clarify that the proposed LLR modulator with a neural network corresponds to effect of continuous magnetic reversal, and realizes more effective iterative decoding. Furthermore, we also clarify that the system with the proposed LLR modulator achieves about 1.0 dB and 0.5 dB improvement compared to the system without LLR modulator and the system with the conventional LLR modulator, respectively in required signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) to achieve no-errors.
