Evaluation of Support Functions for Increasing Motivation in a Research Activity Support System

Abstract(in English) Most of the Japanese universities impose graduation research on students; however, some students have trouble, which they cannot smoothly execute their research activities. We think that setting, planning, and executing tasks in the research activities help smooth the execution of their research activities. We have developed a research activity support system "RePlanning," which applies the theory of self-regulated learning to research activities. This work implemented some functions to support planning, execution, and refection of "daily-tasks," which are the tasks to be executed in a day, to increase students' motivation. We experimented to evaluate the effect of using RePlanning with daily-task functions. Experimental results show that using replanning with daily-task functions changes students' awareness about execution and reflection of tasks. On the other hand, students' awareness about the planning of tasks does not change. Also, the utilization rate of RePlanning does not increase.
