RF signal phase shift method by means of optical phase control in RoF transmission

Abstract(in English) A new technique is proposed to enable phase shift of microwave or millimeter wave emitted from antenna at the end of RoF systems. The phase shift is induced by optical phase control device based on planar lightwave circuit technology. The optical device includes optical frequency filters ans phase shifters. The filter separates the upper modulation sideband from the lower and the optical phase shifter gives a phase difference between the two sideband lights. The phase shift in optical domain results in the phase shift in RF signal. The optical filter and the phase shifter are monolithically integrated and the device is compact and stable/repeatable. This technology will be useful for radio wave beam steering in mobile networks.
