Abstract(in English) | In this study, we focus on a large-scale ICN (Information-CentricNetworking), and reveal the scaling property of ICN. Because ofin-network content caching, ICN is a sort of cache networks andexpected to be a promising architecture for replacing futureInternet. To realize a global-scale (e.g., Internet-scale) ICN, it is crucial to understand the fundamental properties of suchlarge-scale cache networks. However, the scaling property of ICNhas not been well understood due to the lack of theoreticalfoundations and analysis methodologies. For answering researchquestions regarding the scaling property of ICN, we derive thecache hit probability at each router, the average contentdelivery delay of each entity, and the average content deliverydelay of all entities over {em a content distribution tree}comprised of a single repository (i.e., content provider), multiple routers, and multiple entities (i.e., contentconsumers). Through several numerical examples, we investigatethe effect of the topology and the size of the contentdistribution tree and the cache size at routers on the averagecontent delivery delay of all entities. Our findings includethat the average content delivery delay of ICNs converges to aconstant value if the cache size of routers are not small, whichimplies high scalability of ICNs, and that even when the networksize would grow indefinitely, the average content delivery delayis upper-bounded by a constant value if routers in the networkare provided with a fair amount of content caches. |
