Study on a Polarization-Independent Type of the All-Optical Feedforward Automatic Gain-Control Circuit Employing a Semiconductor Optical Amplifier

Abstract(in English) Multicore erbium-doped amplifiers (MC-EDFAs) are crucial devices in future multicore optical fiber transmission systems. In this paper, we report our studies on the all-optical feedforward automatic gain-control (AGC) scheme for the MC-EDFAs. Polarization-independent operation of the AGC circuit employing a semiconductor optical amplifier is studied. It is experimentally clarified that the polarization dependent on the input signal light is reduced to ~0.15 dB with the AGC circuit using a Faraday rotator mirror. This value is less than 1/3 that of the circuit using a conventional mirror.
