Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Target displacements during saccades are harder to be noticed than those during fixations (Saccadic Suppression of Image Displacement, SSID). Inserting a short blank immediately after saccades degrades SSID (blanking effect). To examine the temporal aspects of blanking effect in detail, we measured displacement thresholds as a function of the time of blank onset from the end of a saccadic eye movement. Blank duration was either 50, 100, or 150 ms. The results showed that thresholds were smaller than those obtained in the no blanking condition when a blank started before a saccadic offset, and that this blanking effect vanished when a blank started 10 ms after a saccadic offset. These results suggest that retinal information in this brief period immediately after a saccade play an important role for visual stability across saccades.
