Abstract(in English) This paper presents varactor-loaded dual-band single-layer shorted multi-ring microstrip antennas with reduced patch area in half. In order to miniaturize frequency-tunable multiband planar antennas with varactor diodes, a varactor-loaded single-layer shorted multi-ring microstrip antenna (MSA) fed by an L-probe has been proposed. In this antenna, the ring patches are divided into two separated elements respectively. Therefore, resonant frequencies of the two separated elements can be controlled independently. Furthermore, one of the two separated elements can be removed and then further miniaturization of the frequency-tunable dual-band MSA is possible. In this paper, frequency-tunable performance and radiation properties of the proposed miniaturized varactor-loaded dual-band MSAs are investigated experimentally.
