Comparative Study of Digital Pre-Distortion for 32APSK by Hardware Experiments and Numerical Calculations

Abstract(in English) The satellite transmission standard for 4K/8K ultra high definition television (UHDTV) services was recommended in ITU-R (ISDB-S3). The 4K/8K UHDTV services for 12-GHz-band satellite broadcasting have been provided in Japan since December 2018. Although the ISDB-S3 standard supports 16 amplitude and phase shift keying (APSK) and 32APSK, only 16APSK is currently used for the 4K/8K services. This is because 32APSK is more vulnerable to channel distortion than 16APSK. Aiming for practical usage of 32APSK, we have studied a digital pre-distortion (DPD) technique for the channel distortion. In this study, we verify the effectiveness of our proposed DPD for 32APSK by comparing hardware experiments and numerical calculations.
