Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Recently, a lot of nano- or micro-satellites have been developed and utilized for various low-earth-orbit missions. PROCYON (Proximate Object Close Flyby with Optical Navigation) was the first full-scale, 50-kg-class, deep-space probe jointly developed by the University of Tokyo and the ISAS/JAXA. It was launched by H-IIA launch vehicle No. 26 as a secondary payload of the asteroid explorer Hayabusa 2 on December 3, 2014. One of the most significant technologies for realizing ultra-small deep-space probes is to achieve ultra-long-distance telecommunications. Since ultra-small probes cannot adopt telecommunication components designed for larger probes due to physical dimension, total weight, power consumption, thermal design, and production cost, a low-cost miniaturized X-band telecommunication system had to be newly developed. Especially a high-efficiency onboard high-power amplifier is of great importance to achieve high equivalent isotopically radiated power, and thus we adopted GaN and a lot of commercially-off-the shelf products. We introduce development and flight demonstration results of the fabricated amplifier and the other telecommunication components for PROCYON mission.
