Abstract(in English) | In Internet of Things (IoT), a huge number of sensors are connected to the network and transmit data constantly. Time and location are important for the measurement data. In addition, the protocols for efficient utilization of radio frequencies are being developed recently by optimizing data transmission timing on a large scale using time synchronization. Thus, time synchronization and geolocation with marginal power consumption are the fundamental and most important technologies for remote sensing. The conventional technologies including GPS in the outdoors and WiFi positioning achieve these goals to a limited extent, but there are few methods that can be used both indoors and outdoors in a wide area. In this study, we propose the use of GPS protocol in the VHF band in order to establish time synchronization and positioning system for IoT. Using Software Defined Radio (SDR), the GPS signals with center frequency at L1 band (1.57542GHz) are down-converted to the VHF band. We posit that our proposed positioning system is available both indoors and outdoors in a wide area. This paper reports our preliminary evaluation of the prototype system and conducts a feasibility study of the future system. |
